Ross Place Seniors Community is a publicly subsidized assisted living residence in Victoria operated by VRS Communities Society. The residence has 40 publicly subsidized AL suites at 2631 Douglas Street in Victoria, in the Hillside neighbourhood near Douglas Street and Hillside Avenue. VRS Communities Society is a non-profit organization established in 1972 as the Vancouver Resource Society, operating senior living communities across BC and Alberta. The Douglas Street location puts the residence on transit routes and within easy reach of city services, shops, and medical offices in central Victoria. The campus also includes independent living suites alongside the AL component, so couples and close friends can sometimes stay within the same community as care needs change. AL care supports include help with daily activities and medication management. Access to the 40 publicly subsidized AL suites at Ross Place is managed through an Island Health assessment. Families starting the process contact Island Health Home & Community Care to request a clinical assessment; once eligibility is confirmed, the resident is added to the waitlist for placement at Ross Place or another suitable Island Health site.

What families should know
Placement through Island Health — publicly funded placement
Ross Place sits on Douglas Street in the Hillside area of Victoria, a mixed residential and commercial neighbourhood with transit routes, shops, and city services within easy reach. The setting gives residents practical access to everyday destinations — medical appointments, errands, family visits — in a central Victoria location rather than an isolated suburban campus. The shared campus model — independent living and assisted living on the same grounds — means couples and close friends can sometimes stay within the same community as care needs change. VRS Communities Society has been operating non-profit senior housing in BC since 1972, which gives Ross Place a different character than a large corporate operator: a regional focus and a non-profit mandate with roots in the community.
