About CareCompare
CareCompare replaces the overwhelming chaos of a healthcare crisis with a clear, guided path — turning five simple questions into a personalized, actionable senior care plan for your family.
Finding care for someone you love is one of the biggest decisions a family faces. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed — there’s a lot to consider, and you want to get it right.
CareCompare.ca is a free, independent tool built to help you through that process. We bring together verified government quality data and real reviews from families and residents so you can compare senior living options across British Columbia — all in one place.
Independent and commission-free. Verified provincial data, updated regularly.
Why We Built This
CareCompare was built by a BC family who has been navigating the senior care system — not once, but across multiple family members, at the same time.
It started with a parent’s slow decline into dementia. Years of phone calls, waitlists, difficult conversations, moves that didn’t work out, moves back home, and eventually a long-term care placement — each transition harder than the last.
Then, not long after, a mother-in-law fell. Fractured hip. Hospital. Suddenly the question was no longer just medical — it was: where does she go when she’s discharged, if she can’t go home yet? And with her in the hospital, a father-in-law with COPD who had quietly been relying on her was now alone and needed full-time support too.
Two caregiving emergencies. One family. No manual.
The hardest part in each case wasn’t the grief or the fear — it was not knowing where to look, who to trust, or how to make a good decision under pressure.
CareCompare is the tool we wished had existed.
If you’re reading this because someone you love suddenly needs more care — we built this for you.
Our Independence
CareCompare is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by any senior living facility, operator, or health authority. Our Care Navigator results are based on your answers — never on payments. Some providers choose enhanced listings for more visibility on directory pages, but this never affects your personalized care plan or the order of your results.
How We Verify Our Information
Every piece of data on CareCompare comes from a verified source. We never fabricate ratings, reviews, or quality scores.
Provincial Care Quality Data
Publicly funded long-term care and assisted living facilities in BC are subject to provincial oversight and regular reporting. We surface the quality indicators that matter most to families — staffing levels, direct care hours, complaint volumes, inspection outcomes, and wait times — so you can compare facilities on what actually affects residents’ lives.
Real Reviews from Families and Residents
Alongside government quality data, we include ratings and reviews from people who have direct experience with a facility — residents, families, and visitors. Where a facility has enough reviews, we surface common themes so you can quickly understand what families say about staff, food, cleanliness, and day-to-day life without reading every individual comment.
Licensed Provider Listings
Community service providers — home care agencies, medical equipment suppliers, transportation services, and others — are cross-referenced against provincial licensing and registration records before being added to CareCompare. We verify that providers are active and operating in the areas shown.
What We Cover
CareCompare lists facilities across all five BC health authorities. Here’s a quick guide to what each type of care means.
- Long-Term Care — publicly funded residential care for people who need 24-hour professional nursing support. This is the right fit when your loved one needs daily medical attention and personal care around the clock.
- Assisted Living — housing with personal assistance services for people who can live semi-independently. Your loved one gets help with things like meals, medications, and housekeeping, while still having their own space.
- Dementia & Memory Care — specialized facilities for residents with Alzheimer’s or other cognitive conditions. These homes are designed with safety and routine in mind, with staff trained in memory care.
- Retirement Home — private-pay residential communities offering meals, housekeeping, and social activities for independent seniors. A good option when someone is mostly independent but wants a supportive community.
- Independent Living — apartment-style housing designed for active seniors who want a community setting with minimal support services. Think of it as your own home, with neighbours nearby and shared amenities.
Beyond Facilities — Local Support Services
Finding the right care facility is only part of the picture. Many families need help arranging support services long before — or alongside — a facility placement. CareCompare also helps you find local providers for home care, respite care (temporary relief for family caregivers), meal delivery, medical equipment, transportation, and more.
Some of these services are publicly funded through BC Health Authorities and accessed through your local health unit. Others are private-pay services you arrange directly. We list both, so you can see what’s available in your area and make the choice that fits your family’s situation and budget.
Data Accuracy
We work to keep our data accurate and up to date, but conditions at facilities can change. Provincial quality data is published periodically and may not reflect the most recent state of a facility. Reviews represent individual experiences at a point in time.
We strongly recommend contacting facilities directly to verify current availability, pricing, and services before making decisions. CareCompare is an informational resource and does not provide medical advice.
