Built for BC families
About CareCompare
CareCompare is a free senior-care guide for BC families — find local options, understand costs, and know what to do next.
A guided path
Five questions turn a stressful situation into local options, cost context, and next steps.
Checked listings
Provider and facility information is cross-checked against public and official sources where available.
Independent results
No referral fees. Paid visibility never influences Navigator recommendations or care-plan ranking.
The problem
I built CareCompare after navigating the BC senior care system — not once, but across multiple family members at the same time.
It started with my mother’s decline into mild dementia. Years of phone calls, waitlists, difficult conversations, a move that didn’t work out. Then, not long after her long-term care placement, my wife’s mother fell — fractured hip, hospital, and the sudden question: where does she go when she’s discharged? With her mother hospitalized, my wife’s father — who had quietly been relying on his spouse — was now alone and struggling. My wife became his full-time caregiver. Her father lives with COPD and cancer.
Two caregiving emergencies. One family. No manual.
If you’re reading this because someone you love suddenly needs more care — I built this for you.
The gap we saw
When a care crisis hits, the existing options are a phone call to a nurse line, a referral to a social worker with a weeks-long queue, or a commercial directory that ranks providers by who paid the most. None of these give families what they actually need: a fast, honest, BC-specific answer to “what do we do right now?”
The information existed — buried across provincial health authority websites, licensing registries, and scattered provider listings. What was missing was a single place to make sense of it, organized around the decision a family actually has to make.
The four questions families ask
When senior care becomes urgent, BC families ask the same four questions:
- How long might we wait? — provincial averages, regional waits, what your situation actually looks like.
- What will it cost? — publicly subsidized rates, private-pay ranges, what your family can afford.
- What can we do while we wait? — home care, day programs, respite, bridge support.
- Are we doing this right? — a personalized care plan that turns the situation into clear next steps.
These four questions are the architecture of CareCompare. Every guide, blog post, and Navigator path leads toward an answer to one of them.
The promise is one line: know what to do next.
What we built
CareCompare is a planning tool, not a referral broker.
We help families understand options, compare local listings, and know what to do next. We do not take referral fees or let paid visibility influence Navigator recommendations.
What I ended up building: a 5-question Navigator that turns your situation — who needs care, how urgent, what kind of support, budget, and city — into a personalized plan with local providers, cost estimates, and concrete next steps. Free, no account needed. Provider and facility listings are cross-checked against public and official sources where available, enriched with real Google ratings. The BC cost calculator uses 2026 rates from the Office of the Seniors Advocate and provincial Health Authority fee schedules.
How we check listings
- Phone numbers cross-referenced with operator websites and Health Authority directories
- Facility licensing status from the BC Assisted Living Registrar and provincial Community Care Facilities database
- Cost figures from the Office of the Seniors Advocate’s 2026 reports and provincial Health Authority fee schedules
- Provider categories validated against 4,000+ active records

Our independence
CareCompare currently lists 600+ facilities and 4,000+ providers across British Columbia, all cross-checked against public and official sources where available. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by any senior living facility, operator, or health authority.
Here’s what that actually means in practice: when a family contacts a facility through CareCompare, we don’t bill the facility, charge the family, or take a cut. Operators can pay for enhanced directory visibility, and that visibility is clearly labeled when it appears — but it never influences your Navigator results or your personalized care plan, only the order of unranked directory pages.
