Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026
1. About This Policy
CareCompare.ca is operated by 1572035 B.C. LTD., a British Columbia numbered company, and complies with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). This policy describes what information we collect, why, and how we use it.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Facility and Provider Information (Publicly Available)
We display publicly available data about senior care facilities and local service providers. Sources include the BC Office of the Seniors Advocate (quality indicators, staffing data, inspection results), Google Maps (business listings, ratings, addresses, phone numbers), public inspection records from provincial health authorities, and publicly available operator or development materials.
Some descriptive sections, such as how a residence describes daily life or amenities, may be prepared from publicly available operator, developer, health authority, or regulatory materials found during research. Research tools may help us identify relevant public materials, but CareCompare reviews the underlying sources before publishing this content.
2.2 Care Navigator Inputs
When you use our Care Navigator quiz, we collect the inputs you provide — including your city, care needs, urgency level, and budget range — to generate your personalized care plan. This information is processed to match you with relevant facilities and services. If you request an email copy of your care plan, your email address is also collected for that purpose (see Section 2.4). We may also use non-identifying, aggregate Navigator step data to understand where families get stuck and improve the quiz experience.
2.3 Engagement and Interaction Data
When you click a Contact button on a provider or facility listing, we log that interaction (including which provider was contacted and your general care needs context) for the purpose of improving our directory and, in aggregate, demonstrating platform value to providers. No personally identifying information is attached to these logs.
We may also store non-identifying campaign and referral context associated with your visit, such as UTM parameters, source page, referrer, and a session identifier. This helps us understand which public resources, professional handoffs, or campaigns led to aggregate contact activity. These attribution logs are used for platform analytics and reporting in aggregate, not to sell family contact data.
2.4 Email Address and Saved Care Plan (Optional)
If you choose to save your care plan, we collect your email address and the care preferences you selected in the care plan — including city, type of care needed, urgency level, and budget range. We use this information to send you a copy of your plan and, approximately 30 days later, a single optional check-in reminder in case your situation has changed. We use Resend (a third-party email delivery service) to send these emails.
We do not use your email address for ongoing marketing. You will receive at most two emails per plan save: the initial delivery and one 30-day follow-up. You can opt out of the follow-up by simply not clicking the link — we suppress the reminder if you have already returned to your plan within the prior 7 days. Your email address is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
2.5 Tour Requests (Optional)
If you choose to request a tour through CareCompare, we collect the information needed to send and track that request. This may include your name, email address, optional phone number, selected residence, who the tour is for, preferred contact windows, notes you choose to include, an optional second recipient email address, and basic technical context such as source page, referrer, browser user-agent, and session identifier.
We share the request details and your contact information with the selected residence so they can contact you directly. If you provide a second recipient email address, that person may receive the same transactional updates about the request. We store request status and delivery information so we can follow up, monitor whether the request was sent or acknowledged, troubleshoot email delivery, and understand aggregate use of the feature.
If we cannot confirm that the selected residence received or acknowledged the request within the expected follow-up window, we may send you and any second recipient a follow-up email with alternative residence suggestions. Those alternative residences do not receive your information unless you choose to start a separate request with them.
A tour request is not a booking, confirmed appointment, held time, or promise of availability. The residence must contact you directly to confirm whether a tour is possible and to agree on a time.
2.6 Website Analytics (Automatically Collected)
Standard analytics data is collected through cookies, including pages visited, time spent, referring websites, browser and device type, and approximate geographic location. We use Google Analytics for aggregate usage reporting.
2.7 Approximate Location (Automatic)
We use ipapi.co, a third-party geolocation service, to estimate your approximate city based on your IP address. This is used only to pre-fill the city field in our search tools for convenience. We do not store your IP address or precise location.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
Except when you choose to save a care plan, submit a provider, or request a tour, we do not collect names or direct contact details. We do not collect account credentials, payment information, or health records. We do not build user profiles or share data for advertising purposes.
4. How We Use Information
Information is used to display the directory, power search and comparison features, generate AI-powered review summaries, deliver requested care plans by email, send and follow up on optional tour requests, improve listing accuracy, and monitor website performance.
5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Essential cookies enable website functionality. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) provide aggregate usage data. You can control cookies through your browser settings without affecting core functionality.
6. Disclosure of Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the platform, including:
- Vercel — website hosting
- Supabase — database infrastructure
- Google Analytics — aggregate usage analytics
- Resend — email delivery for care plans, provider submissions, and tour-request transactional emails
- ipapi.co — approximate city detection
All service providers are contractually required to handle data appropriately.
When you submit a tour request, we also share the request details and your contact information with the selected residence so they can respond directly. This is the only residence that receives the request unless you choose to submit a separate request elsewhere.
7. Data Storage and Security
Data is stored on encrypted servers. Data in transit is protected by HTTPS. Hosting infrastructure may store data in Canada or the United States in accordance with each provider’s data residency policies.
8. Third-Party Links
CareCompare links to facility and provider websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites and encourage you to review their policies directly.
9. Your Rights Under PIPEDA
You may request information we hold about you, request corrections to facility or provider data, and file complaints with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at www.priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.
10. Facility and Provider Operators
If you believe any information displayed about your organization is inaccurate, please contact info@carecompare.ca and we will review and correct it promptly.
11. Children’s Privacy
CareCompare is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from minors.
12. Provider Submissions
When you suggest a provider or submit your service through CareCompare, we collect:
- Your email address (to send you updates on the submission)
- Your name and role (provider submissions only)
- The provider details you provide (name, phone, city, website, category, description)
- Your IP address and browser user-agent (for spam prevention)
Retention: Your email address, name, and IP address are automatically removed 90 days after submission via a nightly scheduled cleanup task. Provider details (name, phone, city, etc.) may be retained as part of our database if the provider is verified and added to CareCompare.
Who sees it: Submission data is stored in our Supabase database (service-role access only) and used to send transactional emails via Resend. We do not share submission data with third parties.
Right to deletion: To request deletion of a submission, email info@carecompare.ca.
13. Changes to This Policy
We will post updated policies with a revised date at the top of this page. Continued use of CareCompare after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
