Chénchenstway is a 106-bed long-term care community in Burnaby, operated jointly by Fraser Health and Providence Health Care. The name, a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) word meaning “to lift each other up,” was gifted by Hereditary Chief Ian Campbell. The community’s single-bedroom suites feature large windows and access to gardens, dining rooms, and activity spaces. Indigenous Wellness Liaisons are present at least two days per week, and xaʔɬəmətelə — a dedicated sacred space — is available for cultural and spiritual use by residents and families. Placement is managed through a Home and Community Care assessment — call 8-1-1 to start. Contact Chénchenstway to ask about the residence itself.
